                                                                                              THE DINNER TABLE

Once upon a time there were a bunch of friends who used to meet at dinner every evening.  There was Mr. Table and Mrs. Cup and Mr. Plate and Fork and Spoon.

One day, a big juicy steak was put on Mr. Plate. Fork tried to cut into it but could not slice it. Then Spoon tried but could not slice it either. Who would cut the large steak? Mr. Knife, that’s who.

Here comes Mr. Knife grumbling “ Why are you bothering me. Why don’t you leave me alone? Can’t you guys take care of your own business?

“Oh please help us”, begged Fork. “Could you do us a favor and cut this steak for us?” asked Spoon.

“Well, if you’re going to ask so nice, I guess I will” grumbled Mr. Knife. And he cut the steak in small square pieces that were perfect bite size. “Now leave me alone. I’m going to sleep in the dishwasher and I don’t want to be disturbed.” (Make sound of the dishwasher)

Well the next day, dinner was served, but this time the meal was hot dogs. But what do we need to eat hotdogs with?    Fork and Spoon were left in the drawer and they were both very sad. They began to cry.

“We can’t join our friends at dinner. We have to sleep in the drawer instead of the dishwasher.”

Suddenly, the drawer opened and Spoon was taken out and put on  Mr. Table. Dessert was being served and they needed Spoon. What dessert do you need a spoon for? (Ice cream)  They were serving chocolate strawberry mint rainbow sherbet tutee fruity nutty cookie crumb banana ice cream. Spoon was diving in and out of the dessert and was so happy.

But fork was still in the drawer as was even more upset. She cried,”I’m left here all alone without my friends. It’s so dark here and I’m so afraid.” She was able to sneak a peak out of the drawer when she saw five of her old friends. Do you know who they were? Come close and I’ll tell you who they were.

They were Candle brothers and sisters, and they were riding on top of a beautiful birthday cake. (Start singing Happy Birthday) Do you know what they eat birthday cake with?

Fork was taken out of the drawer and was so happy and everyone cheered “YEA!”

But who was going to cut the beautiful cake?  Mr. Knife was called for the job.

(Grumbling) “Who is bothering me now? Why can’t I be left alone? I don’t see any steaks out here.”

Then after dinner, everyone went to sleep in the dishwasher. (Make sound of the dishwasher)

                                                                             THE END

This is a good one to test your different voices. The grumbling knife and the fork and spoon.

If you don't have a dishwasher you can substitute the sound of a filling sink with water.

TIP: you can use as many candles as your child's age. Tell them to sing loud! And blow out the candles!

TIP: you can use different foods as well like tacos or pitas or sandwiches.
