THE LONG SWIM
Once upon a time, there was a boy and girl playing on the beach.
The boy was hitting a ball with his bat and the girl was playing in the sand.
The boy hit the ball into the water when suddenly a dolphin appeared and
wanted to play with the ball! So the boy and girl took turns throwing the
ball to the dolphin. The dolphin must have gotten tired because he just left
and the boy and girl didn’t know why. The girl pitched the ball to the boy
when he suddenly got a great hit and the ball flew way over the water
and landed on a nearby island. The boy didn’t know how he was going
to reach his ball. How could he get there? Run across? Dig a tunnel?
Fly over? They had to swim, of course!
The boy and the girl held hands, took a deep breath, (Child take a deep breath) and started to swim to the island. While they were swimming, they looked into the water. Do you know what they saw? (Have your child guess some things that they would see in the water)
Suddenly, their heads bumped into a rock and they looked up and they saw the boy’s ball lying up on the beach right in front of them! (yeaaaa!!!)
But now they had to get back and it seemed so far away. They took another deep breath, held hands and started to swim across. But the waves were stronger and they had to swim harder. (Have the child pretend that they’re swimming) Oh no! They were only half way and they were too tired to swim anymore when suddenly they saw their friend the dolphin. He wanted to play, so they grabbed on his fin and threw the ball towards the beach. He swam to the ball pulling the boy and girl with him. And he pulled the boy and girl all the way back to the beach! (yeaaaa!) Their friend, the dolphin, had saved them! They threw the ball to the dolphin and he hit it hard away from the beach. When they got the ball their friend the dolphin was gone. I guess the dolphin has a bedtime too!
THE END
The swimming motion and breathing will tucker out the kids to help them sleep. Let them guess all the things you might see in the water. Ask your child if they think dolphins dream and what about.
Let them name the boy and girl and they could be playing a game your child likes like soccer or frisbee.
